Book Launch Gala Dinner in Launceston on March 4, 2022
As part of a whole weekend of events laid on by the Charles Causley Trust, of which Patrick is one of the proud patrons, Patrick will be a guest a gala dinner in Launceston’s Eagle House Hotel. He’ll take part in a Q and A about the novel and read from it. The tickets are expensive because this is primarily a fundraising event for the trust, but you’ll get a delicious meal in a stunning building ( mentioned, of course, in Charles’ poems) and a good chance to talk to Patrick about this new novel. There’ll also be a great chance to bid for some fantastic prizes in a charity auction.
Based on the youth and boyhood of Charles Causley and the life of his mother, Patrick’s latest novel begins when Laura Causley meets her soon-to-be husband when they are both in service in Teignmouth in 1916. They have a baby, Charles, but Laura’s husband returns home from the trenches a damaged man, already ill with the tuberculosis that will soon leave her a widow. In a small, class-obsessed town she raises her boy alone, working as a laundress, and gradually becomes aware that he is some kind of genius.
Tickets are limited so for your chance to be a part of this once in a lifetime event, book your ticket now!
