Patrick in conversation with Salley Vickers on November 18, 2020
As part of his residency at Exeter’s lovely old Custom House Museum, Patrick will be in conversation with Salley Vickers, a novelist and friend whose work he has long admired and who just happens also to have been a practising Jungian psychoanalyst. He’ll ask Salley about the fascinating parallels between writing a novel and helping a patient towards self-healing, ask her what fiction has taught her about psychology and, indeed, what psychology gets wrong. He’ll also explore with her the impulses that lie behind our hunger to read and, in the case of novelists, the impulse to write stories about imaginary people.
Because of Covid restrictions this event will be broadcast live online. Places are free but limited so follow this link to book yours. It will enable you not just to listen in but to put questions to Patrick and Salley.
The conversation starts at 6.30pm.
