Patrick’s first original drama, the two part Man in an Orange Shirt will be being broadcast by the BBC this summer as art of their Gay Britannia season. It’s a stunningly moving an beautifully assembled production, directed by Michael Samuels and starring Oliver Jackson-Cohen and James McCardle as lovers in the 1940s, Julian Morris and David Gyasi as their modern day counterparts and Joanna Vanderham and Vanessa Redgrave as Flora, the woman who links the two stories, first as wife then as widow and grandmother. There are also delicious appearances from Frances de la Tour, Adrian Schiller, Laura Carmichael and Julian Sands.
